Runners Trek Miles For Police Officer Still Recovering At Hospital
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are continuing to investigate a hit and run, from last week in Mayfair. The victim, Gary Miller is a 13-year veteran of the SEPTA Transit Police Department, was struck by a car while running with his wife.
A community running group, called 'RUN 215,' decided to come together, to lift his spirits, and support the officer.
"We got a bunch of get well cards and gifts, and we're going to drop them off. He doesn't know we're coming," said Jon Lyons, leader of the organization.
"I just thought it was something we could do, it's all one big running community."
About two dozen runners took off from the intersection where the accident happened, Rowland Ave and Chippendale Street, and trek to the hospital, where Miller remains in serious condition.
"It's touching to see what people are willing to do to come out and support their police," said SEPTA Police Chief Tom Nestel came out to thank all who joined. "We remain optimistic that he is going to do OK, and he will be back in uniform working with us."
