Restaurant Coming To Fishtown Implements No-Tipping Policy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- A new restaurant coming to Fishtown this fall plans to implement a no-tipping policy.
Christian Mora, co-owner of Girard Basserie and Bruncherie says when his restaurant opens in October patrons will be asked not to tip.
"A tip is about outstanding service," he said. "It's unfortunate that in our industry we've made it part of someone's salary."
And so Mora's wait staff will be paid $11 an hour plus benefits, "Rather than saving someone some money so they don't have to pay someone else."
"I think it's amazing, especially being in the hospitality industry," reacted one Fishtown neighbor.
"I mean as long as they're taking care of their staff and the prices aren't outrageous, why not? Everybody wins," said a man in the neighborhood.
Another woman said the policy might be helpful when friends who don't tip come to visit. "I know a lot of times when there are groups that get together sometimes the tip is lacking, so it might be a great alternative to take your friends instead of going to a place where you have to tip."
