Research: DE & NJ Rank Among States With Slowest Emergency Department Response

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New research has tallied up emergency department response times from states in an effort to figure out which states have the slowest response times.

Among the top ten, were New Jersey and Delaware. New Jersey ranked 9th on the list, while Delaware was ranked 1st, having the slowest times.

The data was collected by health data website, HealthGrove. The site used a Medicare survey from over 4,000 hospitals nationwide, taken between 2014-15, to come up with a timeliness score for each state out of 100. The higher the score, the faster the response time.

The factors considered to come up with the score included the time between a patient's arrival and departure from the hospital, average time spent in the emergency room before a healthcare professional is seen, percentage of patients that leave without being seen and a number of other factors.

New Jersey's timeliness score was calculated to be 42.92. According to the data, Delaware's timeliness score was 0.
