Regional Female Law Enforcement Professionals in Montco for Annual Conference

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) -- More than 100 women in blue (or grey or brown, depending on their uniform) gathered today at the Radisson Hotel in King of Prussia for the start of the annual conference of Mid Atlantic Association of Women in Law Enforcement.

It's the 28th annual gathering of women who work in local and state police departments in the Midatlantic region.

Keynote speaker Lisa Holmes, the Boston Police Department superintendent, has had 29 years' experience behind the badge. And says it's taken a long time for women to reach parity with male police officers.

"Organizations like this, which empower women to be successful and use their skills and to not be afraid to be women, and to be good at what you do, help us overcome all those obstacles that women faced in prior years," she told KYW Newsradio today.

As for young women considering a career in law enforcement, she encourages them, saying, "Stay true to yourself, and do the right thing for the right reason in the right way"

The conference continues through Thursday.
