Rare Bill Of Rights Copy Goes On Display In Philly
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The National Constitution Center is putting a rare, original copy of the Bill of Rights on display.
The piece is one of a dozen surviving copies President George Washington sent to the states in 1789.
Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to attend the exhibition opening on Monday.
It also features a first edition stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence and the first public printing of the U.S. Constitution.
The New York Public Library acquired the Bill of Rights copy in 1896. It's loaning the document to the Constitution Center until 2017.
After that it'll be shown at various sites in New York and Pennsylvania under a 100-year sharing agreement.
The Constitution Center is dedicated to increasing public understanding of the Constitution and the ideas and values it represents.
