Rangers Fans Priced Out Of MSG Choosing To Invade Flyers Home Ice
By Mike DeNardo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There may be a few more blue jerseys in the stands for the Flyers-Rangers playoff series at the Wells Fargo Center next week.
Ticket broker Seatgeek.com has seen an unusally large percentage of fans from the New York area -- 30 percent -- buying tickets to games three and four on the Flyers home ice. That's compared to four percent of tickets in New York being bought by people from Philly.
Seatgeek analyst Connor Gregoire says blame the high price of secondary market tickets at Madison Square Garden:
"The average ticket price at MSG for the games one and two there has been $255. That is the average price that people have been willing to pay for those games. In Philadelphia, it's almost half that -- $135 so far has been the average price."
It's not cheap for fans of either team. Gregoire says Flyers-Rangers has the highest combined average ticket price for any of the eight first-round series.
And Flyers fans aren't jumping off the bandwagon. Gregoire says ticket prices are actually up a bit following Thursday night's Game One loss.
