PSPCA Removes 17 Animals From Filthy Living Conditions In Holmesburg
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Pennsylvania SPCA says it has removed more than a dozen animals living in filthy conditions inside a home in Northeast Philadelphia.
The PSPCA says Humane Law Enforcement Officers executed a search warrant Saturday at a home along the 7900 block of Marsden Street in the city's Holmesburg neighborhood, where 15 small dogs and two cats were removed.
PSPCA officers were called to the property after receiving a tip from the Philadelphia Police Department of several animals allegedly living in unsanitary conditions.
"The Pennsylvania SPCA is the only animal welfare organization in the region equipped to handle cases involving such a large numbers of animals, as evidenced in this case," said Jerry Buckley, CEO of the PSPCA. "Our Humane Law Enforcement Officers work to protect animals not simply from acts of blatant cruelty, but additionally from situations of neglect where their health and well-being may be at risk."
The animals rescued were taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA's Erie Avenue headquarters where they will be examined and cared for by the shelter's veterinary team. The PSPCA says they will remain in its care until they are surrendered by the owner, or through the adjudication of the case.
Anyone with information about this case, or other cases involving animal cruelty, is urged to call the Pennsylvania SPCA's Cruelty Hotline at (866) 601-SPCA.
The investigation is ongoing.
