President Obama Visits Temple To 'Get Out The Vote' For Wolf

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Tom Wolf's campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania got a boost from the White House. President Obama campaigned for Wolf Sunday at Temple University.

He spoke for nearly 30 minutes at the Liacouras Center on everything ranging from education to job creation.

"Opportunity for all is what Pennsylvania is all about," Obama said. "If you think we should make it easier for young people to go to college without ending up with tens of thousands of dollars worth of debt you got to vote for him."

With the Philadelphia School District currently in a series of budget problems and layoffs, Wolf promised to fully and fairly fund schools:

"That's not just true in Philadelphia," he said. "That is true in York County, it's true in Elk County, it's true in Erie, it's true everywhere in Pennsylvania."

The night was for Wolf, but the President was the man of the hour. The crowd of about 5,000 fed off every word he said and gave thunderous applause whenever he talked about something they liked as the President discussed the need to vote for Wolf:

"If we're going to strengthen the middle class for the 21st Century, we need leaders who understand the 21st Century and understand women are in the work force."

Earlier in the day, thousands of people lined up for hours waiting to get into the Liacouras Center. It's not everyday the President pays a visit and Temple freshman Dan -- one of those who braved the cold wind waiting in line -- says he couldn't be anywhere else:

"A once in a lifetime opportunity. Especially since it's right down the street from where we live. It was very convenient just to come here and be a part of history."

The Wolf campaign hopes the President's presence and words motivates democrats in the city to not sit out Tuesday's election.

Despite the President's low approval numbers nationally, Wolf supporter Andrea says she's still behind him:

"They just quickly forget what kind of a situation the Republicans dumped on him. That he has made these strides."

The President is the latest big name to campaign for Tom Wolf. Last month, it was the First Lady and Hillary Clinton.
