Preparations Underway For July Fourth's Philly Firework Spectacular

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A barge in the Navy Yard is being packed with explosives ahead of this Friday's fireworks show at Penn's Landing.

A pyrotechnic crew loads thousands of shells into launch tubes aboard a barge. It's all computerized and extremely organized to provide the audience with a spectacular show.

Kevin Stead and his crew are working countless hours to make sure everything is set up perfectly.

"We have a full script of paperwork. Everything is mapped out very specifically. There's a lot of hours that go into the planning of a show this size."

Shells range from three inches in diameter to a volleyball-like 10 inch show-stopper.

"They'll fire from three positions at a time, but it's all computer choreographed to the music."

Fireworks will last about 12 minutes Friday night, beginning at 9:30 p.m.

KYW Newsradio is broadcasting the soundtrack for all three shows on Friday, Saturday and Monday.
