Powerball Jackpot Soars To $127 Million

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  Even if you've never won anything in your life, you may want to buy a Powerball ticket or two before Saturday. After no one matched Wednesday's winning numbers (4, 54, 56, 62 and 63 with a Powerball of 10), the jackpot is now up to an estimated $127,000,000.  That's a cash value of $79.7 million.  The next drawing is October 31.

Powerball is played in 44 States (as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands) and tickets cost $2 each.

In May of 2013, Gloria Mackenzie won the largest Powerball jackpot in history.

Mackenzie, who was 84-years-old at the time, claimed a staggering $590.5 million prize.  She purchased the winning ticket at a Publix supermarket in Florida. Lottery officials say she opted for a single lump sum payout of $370 million.
