Elation To Devastation: How To Deal With Post-Election Stress

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- From elation to devastation. Reactions to the presidential election vary depending on which candidate you supported. So how do we move forward following a race that many say divided a nation?

If the presidential election didn't go your way, it's important to remember that you're not alone and the result is not personal. That's according to Frank Farley, a professor of psychological studies at Temple University.

"It doesn't help to go on endlessly kvetching over this result, stressing out over it," Farley said. "That maybe be helpful perhaps in the short period of time."

Farley says to try to turn those negative feelings into action.

"And in psychology we often say, 'no shoulda, coulda, woulda.' Look to the future. Change the world," he said. "We do it all the time and we can do it in this case."

He also suggests avoiding excessive news coverage and social media.
