Popular Haunted Tours Put On Hold During Weekend Of The Pope's Visit

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A popular Halloween attraction inside a former prison in Fairmount opens the week before Pope Francis' arrival next month, but because of all the road closures getting around is expected to be difficult and the shows will be put on hold for that weekend.

"Terror Behind The Walls" is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Eastern State Penitentiary historic site. It's its 25th season and the fun starts on September 18th and 19th which is the traditional start time.

But this year with all the road closures and congestion during the Pope's visit there will be no shows that weekend says Brett Bertolino Director of Operation.

"Make sure that our staff can stay home. We have about 250 staff that work that event and then to focus on the rest of our season because we are opened through November 7th. So we are hoping that the people who would typically come that early in the season will come later on and see the haunted attraction."

There will be no prison day tours September 26th and 27th either.
