Poll: 66 Percent Of Americans Believe It's Appropriate For Store Employees To Say 'Merry Christmas' To Customers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A new poll finds that a majority of Americans think it is appropriate for stores to say "Merry Christmas" to customers.
A recent Morning Consult poll reveals that 66 percent of Americans believe it's appropriate for store employees to say "Merry Christmas" to customers, while 8 percent thought it was inappropriate. Sixty-one percent of respondents felt it was appropriate of staff to say "Happy Holidays," while 13 percent didn't believe it was.

The poll also found that 66 percent of Americans thought it was appropriate for companies to say "Merry Christmas" in its advertisements, while 61 percent said the same about "Happy Holidays."
Twelve percent of respondents thought it was inappropriate for companies to say "Happy Holidays" in advertisements, as 8 percent thought the same about "Merry Christmas."
Seventy-two percent of those who identified as Christians and 61 percent of non-Christians said it was appropriate for stores to wish customers a "Merry Christmas," while 62 percent of Christians and 60 percent of non-Christians felt the same about "Happy Holidays."
Study: Chubby Babies On The Decline
The poll added that 39 percent of Americans said Christmas-facing advertising has no impact on their choice of retailer.
The poll was conducted among 1,605 adults from Dec. 1 to Dec. 2.
