Mother, Child Hospitalized After Kensington Hit-And-Run

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police say a woman and a child are hospitalized after a hit-and-run in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood.

Police say it happened at about 7:02 p.m. Monday.

CBS 3 Eyewitness News is told a 19-year-old mother and her two-year-old son were crossing the 2700 block of Mascher Street.

CBS 3 is told the mother was holding her son in a car seat when they both were hit.

The woman and child were taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition, according to police.

CBS 3 is told the vehicle is described as a newer model four-door white Nissan sedan.

An investigation is underway.

"We're pretty confident that we will be able to identify and apprehend both of these drivers," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police say this is the second hit-and-run accident they are investigating in Philadelphia Monday night.  Police say a four-year-old boy died after he was struck by a vehicle in Southwest Philadelphia.
