Delaware Man Charged In Deaths Of Estranged Wife, Mother-In-Law

SMYRNA, Del. (CBS) -- A man has been charged in the stabbing deaths of a mother and daughter Sunday at a home in Smyrna, Delaware.

State Police say 66-year-old Gilbert Rochester, of Clayton, was formally charged with two counts of Murder 1st and two counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and is being held without bail at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna.

Authorities say Rochester, sometime before 7:30 Sunday morning, parked his silver Chevrolet Caprice about one mile from the residence in a field entrance off Hawkey Branch Road and waited outside.

A short while later, 80-year-old Louise Cavuto Carrow left the house and began walking to her garage.

At that moment, police said Carrow was assaulted by Rochester, causing her death.

Police say Rochester then assaulted 56-year-old Mary Lane as she exited the same home.

Authorities say Rochester then fled the scene on foot.

The Delaware State Police arrested Rochester Sunday night.

Rochester and Lane were in the process of a divorce.

Lane lived at the Hawkey Branch Road home with her mother, Louise Carrow, and her 87-year-old step-father.
