Teen Killed In Forklift Accident In Northeast Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a forklift accident that killed a 13-year-old boy in Northeast Philadelphia.

Police say it happened around 9:20 Sunday night on the 6100 block of Tacony Street.

Police say a group of children entered a warehouse owned by Newman Paper Company.

Investigators say they allegedly began riding forklifts and one crashed into another.

A boy who walked up to the scene tells CBS 3's Steve Patterson he was there at the time.

"It swerved and then the forklift tipped over and his hand got cut right near the bar thing…I saw it."

The victim's uncle, John Grogan says, "I'm hurt, I'm angry... I'm upset. He was only 13."

Newman and Co. released a statement to CBS 3:

"We are saddened by the loss of this young man's life and offer our condolences to the family. This matter is part of an on-going investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department."

An investigation is ongoing.
