Police Search For Pair Posing As Cops In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are searching for an alleged pair of cop impersonators in South Philadelphia.

Officers were called around 4:30 a.m. Sunday to 4th and Jackson Streets where police say a 23-year-old woman was approached by a male and female driving a silver Nissan claiming to be police. Authorities say the man inside the vehicle flashed a badge, identified himself as an officer, ordered the woman to approach the car and threatened to arrest her if she resisted. The woman ran away and he vehicle fled.

Less than two hours later, about a mile away in the 1600 block of Passyunk Avenue, police say the same pair stopped a 21-year-old man. Authorities say the driver got out of the vehicle, announced himself as police and told the man that he fit the description of a wanted drug dealer. After being asked for identification, the man surrendered his wallet to the driver who then handed it to a woman inside the car and told her to check if the descriptions matched. After frisking the man and searching his back pack, the driver returned the wallet and sped away. The victim checked his wallet and noticed all his money, $14, had been stolen.

No one was injured in either incident.

The suspects are described as white male, 5'10 -5'11, 180 lbs., in his 40's, wearing a long sleeve shirt (color unknown), dark pants, mustache, black or brown wallet with badge and a white female, at least 200 lbs., wearing a dark sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is urged to call police.
