Police Search For Driver Accused Of Intentionally Running Down Crossing Guard

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver who is accused of intentionally running down a crossing guard last month in Oxford Circle.

Authorities say they're looking for an older gray Ford Fusion or Focus driven by the man whose actions sent a 56-year-old crossing guard to the hospital on the morning of September 21.

Police say it happened at the intersection of Devereaux and Summerdale Avenues, as the guard stopped traffic to allow a child to cross the street.

Just then, the driver made a left onto Summerdale, almost hitting the child.

The guard, who was standing on the median, yelled as he passed. Police say he backed up, then drove over the median, knocking her to the ground.

He took off down Summerdale, then turned onto Van Kirk, where he hit a parked red car, knocking off part of the Ford's bumper.

Police believe some red paint should still be on the Ford's front end.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
