Police: Man Beaten, Shot In Queen Village

By Dan Wing, Matt Rivers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are looking for two people who allegedly attacked another man with a baseball bat before shooting him in the leg in North Philadelphia.

It happened just before 3 a.m. Saturday near 2nd and Carpenter Streets in the city's Queen Village neighborhood.

Police say a 36-year-old man was walking along Carpenter Street when a woman armed with a baseball bat approached him with an older man that was armed with a handgun. The suspects shouted a profanity at the victim, saying quote, "you know what you did," before the female hit him in the chest with the bat.

As the victim tried to run away, the man gave chase and fired two shots, one of them struck the victim in the left leg.

Responding officers found the victim and a broken baseball bat, but the suspects had gotten away.

The man was taken to Jefferson Hospital for treatment and was expected to be interviewed by authorities when he recovers from his injuries.

According to neighbors, police told them the victim was a suspect in a string of car burglaries in the area and that the attack may have been a form of retaliation.

The investigation continues.
