Police: Knife-Wielding Man Shot After Lunging At Officer
PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) -- Police say a man who lunged at an officer with a knife was shot and critically wounded in south Philadelphia
It happened around 2 a.m. inside a home along the 1200 block of S. 29th Street in Grays Ferry.
Police say officers responded to a domestic disturbance and were met by the 57-year-old resident who was irate because his television and internet were not working.
Police say the man blamed other occupants, a man and two women, for the problem, and re-entered the home while an officer was talking to them and approached the other man with a folding knife.
Police say an officer pulled his firearm and repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused and then lunged at the officer with the knife.
Authorities say the officer fired one shot, striking the man in his chest.
He was taken Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
No one else was injured.
Authorities say as is standard procedure in police-involved shootings, the officer will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
