Police Investigating Fatal Hit-And-Run In Paulsboro As Homicide

PAULSBORO, N.J. (CBS) — Police are now treating a deadly hit-and-run that occurred in Paulsboro, Gloucester County early Sunday morning as a homicide.
According to police, 31-year-old Eddie Lee Warthen was crossing East Madison Avenue around 4:30 a.m. when he was struck by a gray or silver, four-door car.
The victim was rushed to Cooper Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead about three hours later.
The victim's family says he had a troubled past, but was working toward a brighter future. But that all got cut short on Sunday. The victim's dad, also named Eddie, tells CBS3 Eyewitness News he doesn't know why, but he believes this was deliberate:
"When you run over somebody, back up, then run over them again, I mean your trying to kill them."
The victim's cousin, Thomas K Young also expressed strong feelings:
"Whoever did it, God bless them, but they're a bunch of cowards."
Police say the striking vehicle had two passengers in it and the car suffered significant damage.
