Philadelphia Cab Driver Says He May Have Picked Up Escaped NY Prisoners
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police are investigating after a Philadelphia cab driver claims he picked up two men matching the description of the convicts who escaped a prison Saturday in upstate New York.
Police say the driver claims he picked up the two suspects, David Sweat and Richard Matt, around 4 a.m. and brought them to 30th Street Station. After taking another transport to Philadelphia International Airport, the driver then called police around 6 a.m. and made the report.
Police continue to stress this is a preliminary investigation and that this was a possible sighting, nothing is confirmed.
Police tape surrounds the taxi cab at 30th Street Station while the driver is being questioned.
Southwest Detectives are handling the investigation.
