Good Samaritan Trying To Stop Alleged Robber Gets Run Down At Delco Gas Station

UPPER CHICHESTER, Pa. (CBS) – Chopper 3 was over the scene of a hit-and-run investigation at a gas station in Upper Chichester, Delaware County Monday morning.

Officials say a man who was inside the gas station's convenience store was run down after he confronted the suspect who allegedly just robbed the store.

This all unfolded around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Shell Gas Station along the 3300 block of Market Street.

Police say they are still looking for the suspect who displayed a dagger, robbed the gas station, then ran over a man in the parking lot.

A nearby worker told Eyewitness News that he watched a man try to flee the scene after attempting to rob the store across the street. That is when a Good Samaritan ran out after him. While confronting the suspect, the individual fell over and was then run over.

A witness says, "He was coherent. He was conscious still."

Authorities say the victim, identified as Mark Moyer, is in fair condition and is expected to be released from the hospital today.

The owner of the gas station says he and Moyer are good friends and he often sits and talks with him inside of the store.

That's what he says they were doing when the suspect entered with a knife.

Patrolman 1st Class Fred Rhodes with the Upper Chichester Police Department says, "We had an actor, white male, went into the Shell station, produced a large knife and requested the owner of the store to hand over money."

So he did and the suspect ran out with less than 150 dollars. That's when the owner says Moyer ran after the man.

Rhodes says, "He got into an altercation with him out in the parking lot."

Moyer suffered only minor injuries and while police say they commend his actions, they don't condone them.

"We don't want people to really do that. We would rather them just call 911, but I will say he is courageous for doing that."

Police believe the suspect, who is considered dangerous, is driving a 2002-2006 Volvo b50.

Anyone with information on the suspect should contact Upper Chichester Police.
