Police Investigate Alleged Sexual Assault Along Schuylkill River Trail In Center City

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit says detectives are investigating a report of a woman in her 20's being sexually assaulted along the Schuylkill River Trail Wednesday morning.

Investigators are only in the beginning stages of their probe, and they say the woman who reported the assault is being uncooperative. According to detectives, she was inside a car on the trail and had driven down there with a man. She was not running or walking on the trail when the alleged incident occurred.

This alleged incident happened at about 6am right by the railroad bridge near JFK Boulevard on the Schuylkill River Trail, known to most people who use it as the path.

The car is still here, it broke down after it apparently hit a pole. How or why it got here is still being investigated.

The trail has re-opened as police direct users onto the grass around the abandoned vehicle.
