Police Investigate Airbag Thefts In Queen Village

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating after they say airbags were removed from about 20 vehicles over the weekend in Philadelphia's Queen Village neighborhood.

At about 8:46 a.m. Saturday, Philadelphia Police say officers responded to a radio call in the area of 700 S. Front Street for thefts from vehicles.

Upon their arrival, police say the officers discovered five Honda vehicles and one Acura with the front driver side window broken and the airbags had been removed from the vehicles.

According to police, it was discovered by other officers that there were also vehicles at multiple locations in the area with the front driver side windows broken and the airbags had been removed from the vehicles.

Police say six vehicles were parked on the 700 block of Front Street, two vehicles were parked on the 300 block of Monroe Street, seven vehicles were parked on the 400 block of Fitzwater Street, three vehicles were parked on the 700 block of Christian Street and two vehicles were parked on the 300 block of Catherine Street.

Police say 17 of the vehicles were Hondas and three were Acuras.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

In Northeast Philadelphia, several cars were broken into overnight Monday and it appears the thieves may have been targeting airbags.

Police say five vehicles were broken into, all within about a block of each other in the area of Hartel Avenue and Frontenac Street in the city's Rhawnhurst section.

The cars were all Hondas. The windows were smashed out, and in three of them, the airbags were stolen.
