Police ID Suspect In Cobbs Creek Standoff
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have identified the man who opened fire on police officers from inside a Southwest Philadelphia home, leading to a brief but tense standoff.
Police were called to the home on South Millick Street in the Cobbs Creek section of the city around 4:30 p.m. Friday. A woman told officers that 24-year old Kadeem Nelson had attacked her mother, and things quickly escalated from there, according to Commissioner Richard Ross.
"They initially had a conversation, very short mind you, with the female, and then he appears behind them in the rear of the home and he starts discharging, and that's when it all jumps off."
The officers took cover outside, but Nelson continued to shoot at them from the doorway.
One of the shots he fired struck the woman in her arm. Police returned fire, striking Nelson multiple times. He then began the standoff, which lasted about an hour and a half before SWAT teams took him into custody.
Four children and two other and two other adults were inside the home during the standoff, but none of them were injured.
