Police Investigating Possible Attempted Rape At Frankford High School
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eyewitness News was first on scene and the only station to capture one of two suspected attackers getting into the back of a police squad car.
Philadelphia Police say two students tried to rape a 14-year-old girl inside a Frankford High School bathroom.
Their attack was thwarted.
"I'm like scared to come here now, knowing that this is happening," one student said. "Who wants to come to school knowing little boys are taking girls into the bathroom."
Outside of school, there was a heavy police presence.
"If the cops ain't out, that's what goes on there every day," Antonio Moore said.
Officers were heard asking students to keep moving past reporters. Many of the students said they had no clue what happened.
"Kids in the school said the news was out here so I was asking what happened," Zaakira Dublin said.
The victim did not require medical treatment.
The School District of Philadelphia says they are cooperating with police on the alleged incident.
"The safety of our students is our number one priority. Assault of any kind in our schools is unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. The School Police took immediate action on this matter and are working in cooperation with the Philadelphia Police Department," said school district spokesman Lee Whack.
Regarding the incident, students said the school normally send home notes about incidents.
A spokesman for the district said as for alerts to parents - robocalls were being made, and emails sent.
"I think they should've warned us about it this morning," Dublin said. "When it first happened, they should have gave out papers to let us know what's going on."
A captain in Police Public Affairs said information on charges is still being reviewed.
