FBI Agents Raid West Philly Home Believed To Be Involved In Armored Car Heist
By Jan Carabeo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Sources tell CBS3 that authorities know who they're looking for.
They've been watching these men since the Halloween heist at the Wells Fargo Bank.
So, when this latest robbery happened here at the TD Bank, law enforcement started to revisit locations associated with the suspects including one spot in West Philadelphia.
Only CBS3 cameras were rolling during a late-morning raid in West Philadelphia.
The dramatic scene unfolded on the corner of 42nd and Pennsgrove Streets.
Once police and FBI made their way in and searched, they eventually came out carrying bags of evidence.
Sources say this was the spot where those armored car robbers split up the money after their brazen heist at the Mayfair TD Bank. (See Previous Story)
Janet Cleary of Mayfair says, "People are desperate. It's a shame they have to rob banks, but people are desperate."
Today, there is a clearer picture of what happened.
After ditching this first getaway vehicle on Tackawanna Street, sources say investigators found the second vehicle yesterday at the West Philadelphia location.
As that white Cadillac escalade left, law enforcement followed, but lost it before the expressway.
Police ran the plates, which led them to a car dealership.
Turns out, one suspect didn't own this escalade. He told the dealership that he'd pay today when he had the funds.
The dealership installed a GPS just in case and that's how police tracked the SUV to the Henry Avenue apartments in Roxborough.
Authorities searched the car and a third story apartment, where sources say they found a bag of cash.
But today, TD Bank got back to business with a routine exchange, just 24 hours after the chaos that's left this community on edge.
The suspects are still on the run. Also today, investigators took a woman in for questioning. It's unclear if she's a witness or if she was somehow involved in the heist.
Anyone with information is urged to call the police.
