Preparations For A Pope: Planning For World Meeting Of Families, Papal Visit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Fr. William Donovan has had the unique position of being on the inside of the planning for the World Meeting of Families and the visit of Pope Francis to Philadelphia.

He has been serving for more than a year and a half as Archbishop Charles Chaput's personal liaison to the Pontifical Council for the Family in the Vatican.

The group has been putting together an event that Donovan says is focused on strengthening the family.

"When we have strong families we have a strong political, economic, cultural infrastructure of all of society."

Donovan says he's also had the privilege of meeting Pope Francis.

"I always find him very friendly, very affable. But also there is a certain serenity to him."

And, he says, the pope will want to reach out to those who came to see him.

"It'll be a great opportunity for many, many people to get close to the Holy Father, but also for the Holy Father to get close to our people."
