Pioneers Of The LGBT Rights Movement Reflect On Their History

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Pioneers of the LGBT rights movement gathered at the National Constitution Center Friday to reminisce and to look ahead.

Several of the founders of the movement recounted its roots and history at a panel discussion, convened as part of the 50th anniversary of the quest for LGBT rights. Paul Kunstler recalled helping found the Human Rights Campaign.

"HRC is now this huge organization which has like 165 paid staff and owns the B'nai B'right building in Washington. I was amazed, when I look back, how far we've come."

While each speaker cautioned, there is more to be done, veteran activist Randy Wicker said there's much to be learned and inspired by in acknowledging the movement's success.

"Our message to the world should be, we have the secret of how people can come together, work together, build together, achieve together and have a better world together."
