Philly U's Peter Alexis Gets D-II All Star Game Invite
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia University center Peter Alexis has put together quite the college basketball career.
He wrapped up four incredibly successful seasons with the Division II Rams by being just the second player in program history to top 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career. As a senior this past season, Alexis was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. He led the Rams in scoring (19.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.2 rpg) while shooting 62% from the field. The seven-footer also helped lead Philadelphia University to the Division II NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
All this success led to Alexis getting an invitation to play in the NABC Division II College Basketball All-Star Game on Friday night down in Frisco, Texas. He is one of just 20 players from across the country chosen to participate.
"Honestly this came out of left field for me," Alexis tells KYW Newsradio. "Last week, (Philadelphia University's) Coach (Herb) Magee juts called me in the middle of the week and said I was invited to play in this game. I honestly couldn't believe it myself when I looked at the details for the whole thing, only twenty players in the whole country. I was shocked by it, but definitely an amazing honor."
Listen to the entire interview with Philly U's Peter Alexis:
Alexis, who transferred to Philadelphia University from Penn State in 2012, talks about his goals for this game.
"First and foremost, I just want to have fun with it," Alexis says. "I mean this is going to be twenty of the best players in the nation, so it's just going to be exciting to play with people at that high of a level. So I mean, that's the first thing. But then, after that, my coaches were telling me that there might be a couple of scouts there, professional level scouts there. So definitely looking to use it a little bit of a springboard to get my name out there a little more."
Alexis is the third Philadelphia University player to ever be selected to play in this game, the others were Tayron Thomas back in 2006 and Christian Burns in 2007.
