Philly Soccer Show: Rookies Pedro Ribeiro and Andre Blake Steppin' Out
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- A pair of rookies get their first start of the year for the Philadelphia Union, and we have one of them as our guest today on the KYW Philly Soccer Show.
Midfielder Pedro Ribeiro sits in with KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch.
Ribeiro, along with goalkeeper Andre Blake (first pick overall in this past MLS draft), played in he Union's 2-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo last Friday. Though a midfielder, Ribeiro got the start at forward against Houston.
We then look at the Union as they try to recover from a rough patch of their schedule, playing three games in seven days, including 120 minutes in the US Open Cup semifinal in Dallas. (The Union's Maurice Edu gets the ironman award for playing in every minute of the Union games, plus an extra 45 in the All-Star Game on August 6th.)
The Union gets a long week to recover, playing host to San Jose on Sunday at PPL Park.
