Philly Soccer Show: Hoping For Better Against Chivas USA

By Greg Orlandini

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- There's a lot to talk about this week in the world of soccer, both locally and internationally, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show is right in the middle of it.

First, KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by Chivas USA defender Eric Avila.  The converted midfielder will be helping to hold down the defense as the Philadelphia Union come to town.

Chivas, like the Union, are toward the bottom of the standings and struggling for points.

Then CBS 3's Kevin Kinkead joins in the discussion.

We try once again to diagnose the problems facing the Philadelphia Union after another heavy loss, this time at the hands of the Landon Donovan-led LA Galaxy, 4-1.  Philly has given up nine goals over the last two games as the season continues to slip away.

The panel then shifts gears to the US National team, which beat Azerbaijan, 2-0, in an uninspired friendly at Candlestick Park as they tune up for the World Cup, which starts for them on June 16th.

And we go over the controversial decision by coach Jurgen Klinsmann to leave Landon Donovan off the 23-man roster that is heading to Brazil for the cup.
