Philly Police Officer, Woman Injured In Crash

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A police officer and a woman were injured after a crash early Saturday morning in Northeast Philadelphia.

The accident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. near Academy and Willits Roads in the city's Torresdale section.

Authorities say a 44-year-old woman driving a Chrysler Concorde failed to stop as she was exiting an apartment complex and turning onto Academy Road. A police officer who was travelling eastbound on Academy Road didn't have time to stop and struck the woman's vehicle.

Police say the woman was taken to Aria Torresdale Hospital complaining of head, neck and arm pain. The officer involved in the crash was also taken to the hospital where he was treated for a minor injury to his leg.

A 34-year-old man and a 3-year-old girl who were in the vehicle that was struck by the officer were not injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
