Philly Bars To Host Dog-Friendly 'Yappy Hours'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The city is anticipating sunshine next week and one restaurant is welcoming the nice weather with open arms and paws.
Catahoula Philly, the cajun and creole restaurant and sports bar on South Front Street is hosting their first Yappy Hour of the Spring season on Tuesday, April 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on their outdoor patio.
Patrons can enjoy mac and cheese balls and catfish bites while their pups chow down on dog biscuits or even a biscuit burger.
"It's nothing but dogs going by," said Catahoula's manager, Ashley Cox, recalling last year's event. "People always associate us with dogs."
Maybe it's because Catahoula is actually a breed of dogs named after Catahoula Parish, Louisiana and has been the state dog since 1979.
Dog owners have been bringing their pups to the restaurant practically year-round and the establishment is known for throwing a dog costume party every year around Halloween.
"People always come in even with their winter coats on… and their dogs," noted Cox.
Tuesday's event will kick off a trio of Yappy Hours headed by the Queens Village Neighborhood Association. Next up is Yappy Hour at Bainbridge Street Barrel House on May 17 followed by one at For Pete's Sake on June 21.
Customers are encouraged to donate to QVK9, a volunteer organization in Queen Village that maintains the Mario Lanza Dog Park located at 200 Queen Street.
