Phillies Option Cody Asche To Triple A

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- In a surprising move, the Phillies optioned third baseman Cody Asche to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday night. The move came following the Phillies 4-3 loss to the Pirates in which Asche hit 2-4.
Following the game, Ryne Sandberg said that Asche would go to Triple-A and be transitioned to left field.
On the season, Asche is hitting .235 with two home runs, four RBIs and 24 hits.
Following tonight's game, Cody Asche was optioned to @IronPigs where he will transition to left field.

The Phillies already have Domonic Brown down in Triple-A as well as the team thought it best to keep him there following a rehab stint. Sandberg made it clear that Brown had to show he was ready to make an impact on the major league level.
Another player in Triple-A making news is third basemen Maikel Franco.
Franco had a cup of tea with the Phillies last season, but was sent to minor league camp during spring training this year.
Franco seems to be in good form as he is hitting .336 for Lehigh Valley. He also has 42 hits, three home runs and 17 RBIs. Asche being sent down to focus on playing left field, could signal a call-up of Franco to assume a role at third base for the Phillies.
