Phillies Pitching Prospect Jake Thompson To Debut Saturday
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The long awaited debut for Jake Thompson is finally here.
Thompson, the Phillies' top pitching prospect, will make his Major League Debut for the Phils on Saturday in San Diego against the Padres (8:40 p.m. E.T.).
Thompson, 22, has an impressive 1.21 ERA in is last 11 starts in Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Overall, he is 11-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 21 starts in Triple-A this season, allowing just 37 walks while striking out 87.
Thompson was acquired by the Phillies in July of 2015 as part of the Cole Hamels deal.
"I know he's got Major League stuff and I'm anxious to see him perform," manager Pete Mackanin told reporters.
Thompson takes the place of 23-year-old pitcher Aaron Nola, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list this week with a right elbow strain.
