Phillies Announce Front Office Changes, Promote 23-Year-Old Lewis Pollis

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia Phillies have made front office changes, new general manager Matt Klentak announced on Monday.

The Phils promoted former analytics intern 23-year-old Lewis Pollis to a full-time analyst in baseball research development. Pollis wrote about the importance of great general managers in baseball for Deadspin.com on June 11th, 2014. While he was a senior at Brown University concentrating on economics, Pollis wrote his thesis on MLB front office personnel.

Furthermore, Pat Gillick, 78, resumed his role as senior advisor to the president and general manager.

Benny Looper, 67, shifted back to senior advisor, international operations. Looper has been with the Phils since November of 2008.

Ned Rice, 33, joined the Phillies' staff this month as assistant general manager after spending 11 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles.

Scott Freedman, 32, has been promoted to director, baseball operations. Freedman was hired in 2013 as a baseball analytics manager.
