Philanthropist Rudman To Receive Award At Temple University

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Philanthropist Kal Rudman will receive a distinguished service award from Temple University Sunday afternoon for unwavering support of the school and its students.

Kal and his wife Lucille will also announce a one-million dollar gift to the university television station and the Rudman Media Center.

This donation of $1 million brings the total given to Temple by Kal and Lucille Rudman to almost $2.2 million. The money helped launch and will continue to fund operation costs for TUTV over the next four years.

Rudman says he does it because he can.

"It's been a hell of a life. I know the man upstairs he assigned me the job in this territory to take care of a lot of people that need help."

Rudman made his fortune in the entertainment industry, working as a publisher and disk jockey, among other roles.

"Why do I do the philanthropy? Because I find needs and I meet them," Rudman said.

The Kal and Lucille Rudman Foundation is a non-profit that supports dozens of educational and public service causes, as well as the Philadelphia police and fire departments.
