Philadelphia woman shoots, kills man after 3 men attempted to break into her home: police
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A woman shot two men, killing one, during an attempted home invasion in West Philadelphia early Friday morning, according to police.
Philadelphia police said that a woman arrived home -- an apartment on the first floor of a rowhome on the 6200 block of Chestnut Street -- with her boyfriend just before 2 a.m. and was met by three armed men who tried to grab her as she went inside.
There was a scuffle and shots were subsequently fired. According to police, the woman shot and killed one of the armed men, a 31-year-old who police found in a back room of the rowhome. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed the three men were trying to break into the home while disguised as police officers; at least one of the armed men had a badge attached to a chain around his neck.
"Wow. That's shocking," neighbor Tressy Wilson said. "It makes no sense."
Neighbors who live near the home in West Philly were stunned to hear about what police are calling an attempted home invasion.
Investigators said there was some type of altercation before the woman fatally the 31-year-old man in the head and multiple times in the chest.
She also shot another 31-year-old man who escaped, police said, and later showed up at Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Information on the third man involved in the home invasion is unknown at this time.
"She don't bother nobody," Aaron Allen said.
Allen said the woman who lives in the home moved to the neighborhood with her family about a year ago.
"People so mean. You don't know what people might do," he said. "Carrying guns and she probably was trying to defend herself and I don't blame her."
Investigators are still working to learn more about the shooting to figure out exactly why these men were there and if they knew the woman who lives in the apartment.
"I stay to myself," Wilson said.
Wilson said she was assaulted in this area a few months ago on her way to work and what happened overnight gives her more reason to move.
"I'm scared to go to work. I'm scared to go home," Wilson said. "Now you scared to be in your own house."
It's unclear if the woman will face any charges related to the shooting but CBS News Philadelphia was told she is cooperating with police.
