Philadelphia To Get A Dose Of The Triple H's
By Geoff Bansen
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Hazy. Hot. Humid. Get ready Philly -- it's going to be a steamy couple of days!
If you like summer, Thursday will be the day for you. Highs will skyrocket into the low 90s, making it a perfect day for the pool or beach. There are a few things to keep in mind. First, there is an Air Quality Alert in effect for New Jersey, Delaware, and the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs. If you are someone that has trouble breathing and plan to be outdoors, please limit strenuous activities. The heat index will be at elevated levels as well, so stay hydrated and wear light clothing if possible. Lastly, the UV index is at a 9, which is very high. If you plan to hit the pool or beach, make sure to lather up with sunscreen.
A cold front moving across the region will bring a few clouds and could trigger some late afternoon thunderstorms. They will be very isolated, so most folks will stay dry. Friday brings a very similar story, a carbon copy to Thursday. Saturday will once again approach 90, and we expect to eke out one more day of it. Should that happen, it will be an official heat wave for Philadelphia (though I doubt many won't consider it one if we only reach 89). A stronger cold front will bring some showers and thunderstorms by Saturday afternoon, which will drop the temperatures back a bit come Sunday.
