Police identify store employee fatally shot inside Brewerytown food market

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A store employee was shot and killed inside Jefferson Food Market in Philadelphia's Brewerytown section Thursday night, police said. The shooting happened at the store located at 1501 North 29th St. just before 6:45 p.m.

Police said the man was found in one of the aisles slumped on the floor unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound to his neck. He was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m.

The man later identified as 37-year-old Jose Almonte-Garcia was stocking shelves when he was fatally shot, according to authorities.

Police said they recovered a semi-automatic handgun and five spent shell casings inside the store.

Corner store employee shot, killed in Brewerytown

The store owner has been cooperating with police.

Another employee was inside the store at the time of the shooting, police said.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting.

No arrests have been made. 

Police are reviewing surveillance video for clues.
