More than 400 flights delayed, canceled at Philadelphia International Airport due to weather

Severe weather continues to impact PHL airport flights

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There were hundreds of delays and cancellations over the weekend at Philadelphia International Airport due to severe weather in the Delaware Valley, and those problems are rolling into Monday.

There's been about two dozen cancellations and two dozen delayed flights as of 7 a.m. Monday.

But it's not nearly as bad as Sunday. According to FlightAware, there were more than 400 delays and cancellations at PHL.

"I'm really, really upset," Bill Wood, of Miami, said.

Wood came to visit his grandsons at the Jersey Shore this weekend. But now he's having trouble getting back home to Miami.

"They canceled our flight and we were able to rebook my wife on one flight to Miami and they booked me on another one, but tomorrow late in the day. There are no hotel rooms available. There were no rental cars available," Wood said.

Frustration is growing as passengers scramble to adjust their travel plans.

"We're flying into Florida and the weather is really bad and there's thunderstorms that are going in Florida and here, so it's making it difficult for the flights to take off and land," Arianna Grant, of Wyncote, said.

According to FlightAware, PHL had more delays and cancellations than any other airport in the country Sunday.

American Airlines was hit especially hard. We spotted a long line at customer service.

"We got a notification from American Airlines last night saying our flight could be impacted because we originally had an 8:55 pm flight. So they recommended rebooking at that point in time and they were waiving rebooking fees," Arian Wilamowski, of Charlotte, said.

Grant is flying to Jacksonville to get treatment for an illness. But her flight was delayed.

"I'm frustrated and a little worried just because I'm going to Florida to go to a hospital — it's called Mayo Clinic—to get help. So I need to get there in time," Grant said.

Adam Degenhardt is trying to get back home to San Diego, but his flight Saturday was delayed by several hours. He missed his connection.

"I got re-booked on a different flight today, so I had to stay overnight, but that flight is also canceled,"  Degenhardt said.

Airlines are encouraging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
