Flight delays, cancellations pile up at PHL as Debby approaches region

Travelers at PHL hope their flights won't be impacted by Debby as delays, cancellations pile up

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Weather including the coming arrival of post-tropical cyclone Debby is causing flight delays and cancellations at airports across the country, including at Philadelphia International Airport.

Data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware showed 84 flights were canceled and 472 were delayed in and out of PHL on Friday, Aug. 9.

If you plan to fly out Friday, or if you're picking up a friend or relative, make sure to check their flight status with the airline.

Susan La-Pierre was flying Jet Blue from PHL to Boston Logan International Airport and said the last thing she wanted was for her flight to be canceled Friday evening.

"We have to have a lot of patience though," La-Pierre said. "We canceled our trip a little bit early. We were down in Ocean City, Maryland, so we knew the storm was coming. So we got out of there in time but we hit it here and now...our flight has not been delayed yet, we're the only Jet Blue flight that's still on the boards."

Multiple weather alerts were in effect across the Philadelphia region due to Debby, including a tornado watch, a flood watch, a coastal flood advisory and a wind advisory.
