Philadelphia Gets By Toronto FC 1-0

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — Conor Casey scored early in the second half to help the Philadelphia Union beat 10-man Toronto FC 1-0 on Wednesday night, spoiling Greg Vanney's debut as head coach.

Casey sent home Sebastien Le Toux's cross in the 55th minute for Philadelphia (8-9-9). Two minutes later, Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath saved a close-range attempt by an unmarked Gilberto. MacMath helped Philadelphia earn its first shutout win since mid-March.

Toronto's Ashtone Morgan received a red card in the 77th minute for pulling down Le Toux on a breakaway. Le Toux's free kick from just outside the box was blocked by goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

Toronto (9-10-6) hasn't won in four matches and will host Philadelphia on Saturday. Ryan Nelsen was fired as coach Sunday, a day after a loss to New England.
