Philadelphia Environmental Groups Say Jim Kenney Is Best Choice For Mayor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Environmental groups in Philadelphia celebrated Earth Day today by announcing their endorsement of Jim Kenney for mayor.

Clean Water Action, Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania, Penn Environment, and the Sierra Club made their selection based on a questionnaire the candidates were asked to fill out.

It wasn't even close, according to David Masur of Penn Environment, who says Kenney nailed it on issue after issue, "including support for the moratorium against fracking in the Delaware River watershed, which gives Philadelphia its drinking water supply, (and) supporting policies to get 20,000 new solar roofs in Philadelphia."

Masur says some of the candidates didn't even answer all of the questions.  And Anthony Williams apparently was a non-starter for the coalition. Masur points out that  Williams was one of just four state senators to vote for Act 13, a pro-fracking law championed by former governor Tom Corbett.  Williams' wife is employed by the fracking industry.
