Philadelphia Chamber Music Society: The Music Of Charles Ives

By R.J. McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Miles Cohen, the artistic director for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, spoke about the group's Tuesday, October 21st show at Benjamin Franklin Hall with Dawn Upshaw, featuring the music of American composer Charles Ives.

"Anytime you have a concert that focuses on specifically one composer, I think it's important to understand why it would be that Dawn Upshaw, world-renowned mezzo soprano, and Gilbert Kalish, world-renowned pianist, would take the time to focus on one specific composer. And Charles Ives is a very interesting composer – is someone who is really at the forefront of inventing American composers in a world-renowned kind of fashion," Cohen explains.
