Man, woman hurt after SUV crashes into building in Strawberry Mansion

2 hurt after SUV slams into multiple cars, sends one into home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A crash involving at least five vehicles in Strawberry Mansion forced a building to evacuate Monday night.

Police say just before 10 p.m., a vehicle crashed into the building on the 3000 block of West Diamond Street. A traffic light was also hit, along with multiple cars.

Chopper 3 was over the scene. Early Tuesday morning, there was still debris at the scene including the toppled light pole and pieces of the damaged vehicles.

Workers were boarding up the home Tuesday morning.

Police say it all started when a speeding red SUV lost control and slammed into a Subaru on the street in addition to several parked cars.

Two people in the Subaru were taken to Temple University Hospital. The driver, a 53-year-old woman and a male passenger did not have life threatening injuries, according to police.

There was no word this morning on what caused the driver of the red SUV to lose control.

The driver of the Dodge got out and ran from the scene and has not been located.
