Philadelphia DA announces arrest of couple in string of armed robberies
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A couple has been arrested for their involvement in a string of armed robberies in Philadelphia.
Maurice Allen and Christina Kolenda are being charged in connection to five robberies in the city since August, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said during a news conference Monday.
According to the district attorney, the alleged robbery spree began on Aug. 11 -- Allen and Kolenda are accused of robbing someone on the 1900 block of Bainbridge Street in Southwest Center City.
Over the next few weeks in August, the couple allegedly robbed a C&C Creamery in Roxborough, a Dunkin Donuts in North Philadelphia and two nail salons -- Happy Family Nail Salon and Nails in the City -- in West Poplar and Fishtown, respectively.
Krasner said thousands of dollars were stolen in the robberies, and a woman was shot after the alleged incident at the Fishtown nail salon.
The DA said the couple were "dressed head-to-toe in traditional Muslim garments during most of the robberies."
Allen and Kolenda will be charged with robbery, conspiracy, aggravated assault, VUFA and more related charges.
