Philadelphia-Area Runners Return To Boston Marathon One Year After Bombings

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It was one year ago today that two terror bombs killed three people, injured scores more and forever changed the Boston Marathon. But, Philadelphia runners who were in Boston on that day, are resolved to run there again.

"The second explosion went off. And my husband just looked at me and said, 'Let's go.'" It wasn't until they got to their hotel TV six blocks away that runner Mary Suplee learned of the carnage at the finish line she'd crossed moments before.

Suplee, a marketing professional who lives in Valley Forge and is president of the Fast Tracks running club, is returning to Boston for Monday's Marathon.

"I especially wanted to be back there this year. I was happy I was able to re-qualify and be able to run Boston again this year, because I think it'll be a very special memorable experience."

Suplee says she is eager to run Boston again, to support those whose lives were forever altered.

"The community of Boston really rallies around this whole day and this marathon and all the runners.  And just to show the support for all -- so many people were injured and their lives were altered.  And just to be there to share that with them."

Suplee says many in her club were eager to qualify for Boston -- especially those who didn't get to finish last year.
